Abortion and LGTB Rights E-mail

I was super surprised to see an article about Abortion Rights and LGTB Movement in Uruguay in one blog of an Uruguayan fellow thinking outside the box. You will be able to see pictures of the event.

Abortion and Sexual Diversity

Yesterday night there was a demonstration in Montevideo to support sexual diversity and to help make abortion legal.

Many women die in Uruguay as well as in other countries because abortion is illegal and women can't get proper medical attention. There is big concern about this now, you can hear ads on the radio that say that 60% of Uruguay's population supports making abortion legal and that the government should hear their citizens. This demonstration was intended to make a statement in this sense. Many people were holding the orange hands that read "Voto a Favor" (I vote in favor of this).

It is Perfect Timing! E-mail

Perfect_Timing.jpeg

Just reading the current <Article> about the gap difference between the US Dollar and the Euro makes me think the influx of foreigners coming to the River Plate will increase abruptly.

Despite the fact that for locals Uruguayan economic situation is hard, this phenomenom of a low value of US Dollar and the appreciation of Euro and Canadian Dollar will give us the opportunity to be targeted by more "gringos" visiting or those checking the area for a possible move to the River Plate.

I believe Uruguay has a great opportunity trying to show itself both as a charming tourist destination as well as reasonable place to live.

Editorial: Post Stonewall Week Anniversary Uruguay 2007 E-mail

In this editorial we want to share some information about the different activities that took place last week in Uruguay.

We had the public gathering at Liberty Square (28 of June) and also a conference on Sexual Diversity. Unfortunately because lack of organization and personal self-interests (namely mutual disagreement- hate) among a great many of the advocacy groups both activities took place at the same date and time of the day leaving no possibility for many of us interested in both activities as we consider every kind of expression relevant to enhance social consciousness on Human Rights, being acceptance of Sexual Orientation one of our major goals. This produces some sort of frustration and anger as to the vital unity of the LGBT moment should have in a place like Uruguay. Something shameful for a LGTB community belonging to such a small society like Uruguay.

For the first time a pride event went on outside the capital city of Montevideo in the county of Cerro Largo, city of Melo. This is something amazing! We celebrate the geographical expansion of any movement advocating for equal rights and social awareness.

Price of Telecommunications in Uruguay E-mail

The cost of Internet connectivity in Uruguay is not as high as one might expect.

Despite the fact that broadband Internet connections are competitively priced for the region, Uruguay has developed a reputation for having high-priced Internet services.  This reputation has developed into almost an "urban legend".  And, as with any legend, this legend is fed in part by some truth, some exaggerated truth, and some outdated (or downright incorrect) information.

Bilingualism Promotes a Better Understanding E-mail
I have always seen bilingualism as a very useful tool for life. It's good for better employment opportunities, traveling, and business. Now, I believe it goes beyond being just a tool, but bilingualism is a methodology unto itself to help build an understanding, integration and unity amongst human-beings, cultures, experiences and life itself. It is a methodology that enables us to understand, share or condemn (having factual reasons about) values of different cultures.
