In Punta del Este the gay beach is Chihuahua (registered officially as a Nude Beach, so you might even meet open minded European families with little kids there and straight people discovered it like 15 years ago), almost across the airport from Punta, if you want to see who is there from the gay community it's the place to go. There is lots of 'action' in the bushes/dunes in summertime but in June mid winter in Uruguay you may find people cruising in cars.
In Montevideo:
Turisferia Beach. Close to Carrasco beach in the bordering area with Canelones county. Cruising available during the entire year but during daylight only. You will find all types of people. No cars allowed to get in the area but roads are not distant.
In Costa de Oro (Canelones):
Ex playa de La Boya (The Buoy). A bit changed after a hurricane-like storm hit the area, there used to be an old buoy beached in the heart of the gay beach that has been identified as La Boya. At the moment the buoy is located a kilometer east from the original place, now at El Águila (An eagle shape building facing the sea). The gay beach did not move. Still there. Ruta interbalnearia at 47 kilometer. Area in between Villa Argentina (from the eagle to the west) and El Fortin beach (to the east). Very enjoyable place to go.
Uruguay does not count with a gay resort, camping or picnic area. However, this has not stopped to the development of gay themed places.
Gay beaches are very beautiful places and provide a nice environment to enjoy mother nature while sufficing our sense of adventure.
Gay fauna is there so you will find bears, body-builders, transvestites, rent boys and the very local guy in the scenery.
