Uruguayans will have within the next two years the chance to pay all their bills on line. So far this is an option available only to pay Antel (the telecommunication state-own company) services.
At the moment the only real possibility not to pay all your bills in
person is to include them in your local credit card, a service that
some local credit cards offer. The most popular option is Oca Card but
you will have to go to one of Oca offices in person to pay Oca bill
every month.
Some banks include the option for some services to be paid from your
account but they do not include such a wide branch of services like Oca
such as cable TV, your mobile phone, electricity, water, county tax,
gas, health insurance, etc. Banks usually include the option to deduct
from your account bills of the telephone, electricity and water only.
All the rest will have to be paid either via Oca card or at Abitab, Red Pagos or at the Post Office (a service called Correo Bank).
The idea is to create an E-Goverment which would place Uruguay closer
to the rest of the world facilities, and to create easier ways for the
population of little towns to go though all the paperwork without the
need to travel.
In Uruguay there's already a official site that helps with some official paperwork like getting a new ID card (Cédula) and to get a Uruguayan passport.
