Despite that Monday, 30 April is not a holiday, the country will live
more than just a day-off in most working activities. Transportation is
one of those big services that does not run at all on May 1st.
Uruguay is commemorating Labour Day that actually falls
on Tuesday, yet this means in practice that many Uruguayans are enjoying a long
weekend starting today, Friday, 27 April.
Just private international call-centers, Hospitals, some Pharmacies,
24-hour mini markets and very few taxis work on Labour Day. Only the
very essential services are available on that day. Malls, supermarkets,
restaurants and all offices remain closed on May 1st.
