World Crisis: Uruguay Isolated? E-mail
world_crisis.jpgThe credit crisis has worsened, especially in the US. Being the USA the most dynamic and powerful market of world, the question about how the rest of the world will be affected. And certainly, how will Uruguay be affected by it?

Uruguay is not a very dependent economy of the USA or Europe. Basically the markets that may ruin Uruguayan economy are the Argentinian and Brazilian. The late 1990 Brazilian devaluation and 2001 Argentine slump really affected Uruguayan commodities a great deal.

Most of the local economy is based on farming, few services (like Education, Health Care, Banking) and tourism. Most tourists come from neibouring countries, economies that are booming.

To invest in Uruguay should not be done by random. The investor should actually be monitoring the fields in which an investment should be worthy. Personally I suggest investors look closely the market before making their decision

Once the decision is made is so hard to back out. If you are clever enough to make the right investment, you would literally be "sitting pretty".

Try not to base your decision on indexes. They usually have been "inflated" by some administrations. The best way is to meet other foreigners who have been here for a while, meet Uruguayans and fight their self-esteem about their own country, try to learn the business culture of Uruguay which implies a different pace and focus.

Remember, most of investments are made cash or with a good amount of cash, the economies of surrounding countries will affect for good and bad and that economy in Uruguay is not based on full speculation like in other countries but waiting until the profit starts to be made gradually.
